As part of 97% of women who have experienced sexual assault/harassment/violence in their lifetimes, I was horrified to see the force of the police and brutality against women in London last night. This is why I am calling upon everyone who can and are willing to email their local MP to stand up and oppose Priti Patel's New Police and Crime Bill which means we would essentially lose our right to protest as the police can disperse a protest with one noise complaint, a complaint from office workers who are distracted.

I have an email template below to send to your local MPs along with petitions to sign opposing this.

Petitions are linked here:

Good Afternoon

I am contacting you as a member of your constituency to ask you to speak out against Priti Patel's New Police and Crime Bill and attempt to slow its passage to allow for meaningful debate about our right to protest in the UK.

I was horrified to see that the vigil organised in memory of Sarah Everard was threatened with £10,000 fines, and while I can understand the need to keep gathering small to prevent virus transmission, this new bill is extremely frightening and threatens our right to protest.

One of the main purposes of protest is to cause disruption in order to incite leaders to adhere to the view of the general public.

This Bill becoming permanent will infringe on that right which protected under the European Bill of Human Rights under Article 11 (freedom of assembly).

With the term disruption being open for interpretation, peaceful protests could be broken up for something as small as a noise complaint. This bill provides the government and subsequently the police with too much power and is an extremely frightening prospect.

I look forward to hearing back from you regarding your thoughts on this Bill.

Sincerely,

(your name)
