Staying in at home, getting you down?
Same. It's the most Monday-est Monday in a while, please can the weekend come quick?
But fortunately I've been trying to keep up with my craft. At the moment, I'm currently a furloughed bartender and I've been missing shaking, muddling and pulling pints. I have been employed into the hospitality trade and bar/club trade for the past 3 years now and this is the longest I have gone without serving some of my favourite regulars.
So I've pulled together some of my favourite classic cocktails that I've been making quite often and you could make for yourself at home.
All of these cocktails have at least one of the basis spirits; vodka, gin, rum, whiskey and tequila.
Learn a new skill and show off to your family and friends on your next zoom quiz.
If you don't have a cocktail shaker for any of these recipes, simply add all of your ingredients to the mug with some ice, screw the lid on tightly, place your finger over the sipper spout and start shaking as an alternative to a shaker.
Sex on the Beach

A classic summer cocktail, one guaranteed to make you blush upon ordering.
25ml Vodka
25ml Peach Schnapps
100ml Orange Juice
100ml Cranberry Juice
1 Orange Slice
Grab yourself a tall glass and fill with ice, add the vodka, peach schnapps and orange juice to the glass. Pour the cranberry juice over the rest of the ingredients and add a slice of an orange and if you're feeling it a straw.
Another similar cocktail is the Woo Woo, just leave out the orange juice and slice and you've got yourself a cocktail perfect for sunshine.
Purple Rain

Inspired by Prince but also a Spoons 2 for £12 pitcher classic. It's fun, fruity and tangy.
25ml Cherry Sourz
25ml Blue Curacao
2 Lime Wedges
Lemonade
Fill a tall glass with ice and squeeze a fresh lime over the top and drop into the glass, pour over 25ml of Cherry Sourz and Blue Curacao. Fill to the top with lemonade and mix. Add a lime wedge to garnish.
Long Island Iced Tea

One that is guaranteed to have you on the floor after a couple. Brings every spirit together in one beautiful beverage. If you fancy making it a little spicier feel free to use spiced rum.
25ml White Rum
25ml Tequila
25ml Gin
25ml Vodka
25ml Lime Juice/Cordial
Coca-Cola
1 Lime Wedge
Fill a tall glass with ice, add the white rum, gin, tequila, vodka and lime juice to the glass. Pour the Coca-Cola over the top and mix. Add the lime wedge to garnish. Beautiful.

Cosmopolitan
Feel like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex in the City or Tanya in Mamma Mia with this classy and tangy number.
50ml Vodka
25ml Triple Sec (Cointreau/Orange Liqueur)
50ml Cranberry Juice
1 Lime Wedge
1 Orange Slice/Peel
Pop ice into a martini glass or a short glass to cool it, you could even pop it in the freezer for 20 minutes to make sure you've got a cold glass. Pop ice, vodka, triple sec and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker (or reusable coffee mug) and shake shake shake. Make sure your glass is empty of any ice. Strain into your cold glass and add a slice of orange however if you're feeling fancy, you can slice off a bit of orange peel and give it a twist to release the citrus oils and drop into the glass. Enjoy this wonderful fruity drink.

Rocketfuel
This one is easy and a favourite with students, well it was at my uni ;)
Guaranteed to get you buzzed and save some pennies whilst out of the town.
- 50ml Vodka
- 25ml Cherry Sourz
- 500ml (or a can) of Strongbow Dark Fruits
Pop your spirits into a glass and top off with your dark fruits. An amazing combination to make you feel incredible.
Club Tropicana

"...drinks are free" or so they say, this one is beautiful in the summer, winter, well the whole year, it was a beauty.
25ml Gin
25ml Apple Juice
1 can Tropical Redbull
1 Lime Wedge
Add ice to a tall glass, squeeze the lime wedge and drop into the glass, add your gin and apple juice. Carefully pour the tropical redbull over top and escape to a tropical island far away.
Classic Martini
Are you a James Bond type who likes it "shaken not stirred" or not? Well you can do it either way. 2 Recipes 1! FAB!
The classic martini traditionally is with gin however you can substitute the gin for vodka.
If you wanted to spice up this strong cocktail why not add a flavoured gin/vodka to the mix, just make sure you don't garnish with an olive ;)

50ml Gin/Vodka (whichever is your preference)
25ml Dry Vermouth (Martini)
Olive/Lemon Peel to garnish
Chill your glass with some ice or pop in the fridge/freeze to cool.
Add your ingredients to a shaker and give it a shake for about 20 seconds. Remove ice and strain into your martini glass pop in your olive or lemon peel (don't forget to give it a quick twist to get all your excess oils out!).
If you would rather stir than shake, add your ingredients to a chilled rocks glass (a small glass) add ice if you wish and add your ingredients and make sure you give it a good stir for around 30-40 seconds, remove spoon and add your garnish and voila. 2 easy ways to make a martini.
Old Fashioned
One for a slightly more refined taste.

50ml Whiskey
2 Dashes of Bitters
25ml Sugar Syrup
3-4 Ice cubes
1 slice of orange peel
Add your ice to a short glass. Pour over the whiskey and sugar syrup, if you don't have sugar syrup or cannot access it, substitute for 2 pinches of sugar and 1 tsp water or elderflower cordial can work nicely as well. Add your bitters, don't add too much! Cut a slice of the orange rind and twirl to release the citrus oils into the glass and drop into glass. Now this is the important bit! Stir for up to 2 minutes or until the ice cubes have melted slightly. Serve straight away.
Now for a favourite amongst, the young, old, women, men and everyone in between. It's the...
Pornstar Martini

A fruity drink for classy cocktail evenings and to show off to your friends when you've
mastered the shake shake shake.
50ml Vanilla Vodka
25ml Passoa
25ml Passionfruit puree
50ml Pineapple Juice
Prosecco, to serve
half a passionfruit per serving to garnish
Chill your martini/coupe glass in the fridge/freezer or add ice to the glass.
Add your vodka, passoa, puree and pineapple juice to the cocktail shaker. Give it a good shake and remove ice from your martini glass (or coupe glass). Strain into your glass of choice slowly and as you do give it a little twist (if you've ever seen wine tasting or have done it, spin the liquid round, its hard to explain haha) you'll get a lovely big froth which will make your local bartender jel. Pop in your passionfruit and you've done it! A beautiful fruity cocktail. Add a shot of prosecco on the side and it's perfect.
